Employment Associate

We are looking for an Employment Associate with circa 2+ years’ PQE to join a national law firm’s Bristol office. The successful candidate will have experience advising employer clients on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including Tribunal claims, disciplinary proceedings, grievances, redundancies and discrimination issues.

You will manage complex, potentially high-value employment disputes from inception through to final hearing, while also providing practical, commercially focused advice on day-to-day HR matters. The role will involve significant client contact and responsibility, with opportunities to support corporate work, contribute to business development activities and develop your expertise with the support of a wider national team.

Responsibilities

  • Handle a broad caseload of contentious and non-contentious employment matters.

  • Advise primarily corporate employer clients on day-to-day employment and HR issues.

  • Prepare and manage Employment Tribunal claims from inception through to final hearing.

  • Manage directions, detailed disclosure exercises and witness statement preparation.

  • Advise on disciplinary proceedings, grievances, redundancies and discrimination issues.

  • Draft contracts of employment, policies, handbooks and settlement agreements.

  • Undertake employment-related data protection work.

  • Provide practical, commercially minded advice and maintain excellent client care.

  • Support corporate transactions and related employment work where required.

  • Contribute to seminars, networking events, guidance and articles.

  • Work collaboratively with solicitors, partners and the wider national team.

  • Comply with information security requirements and all firm policies and procedures.

Experience and Skills Sought

  • Employment lawyer with circa 2+ years’ PQE.

  • Experience advising employers on a broad range of employment and HR matters.

  • Strong Employment Tribunal, drafting, research and advisory skills.

  • Commercially minded, practical and well organised.

  • Excellent client care and collaborative team-working abilities.

  • Interest in business development and practice growth.

  • Corporate support experience would be useful.
